In a previous life, I worked in magazine publishing in London, followed by 3.5 years in Shanghai, with the marketing team of a tech consultancy.
However, I have always loved letterforms and typography, and spent much of my childhood surrounded by paint, brushes and various art supplies, thanks to my artist mother. So a foray into hand lettering seemed like a natural path to take.
I suppose my calligraphy journey officially started in 2016, when I attended my first pointed pen workshop.
And I actually hated it!
Then, 2 years later, something possessed me to pick up a pen again - and the rest, as they say, is history.
I love the mindfulness of calligraphy, and the feeling of creating something beautiful with my hands.
Particularly in this day and age of technology and convenience, I appreciate the time, effort and intention behind handcrafted goods, and I embrace it all, including the imperfections.
